Alek Sekulovski has been playing, teaching and recording drums for over 25 years. He holds a Master degree in Pop & Jazz drums. He studied with Ron Savage (Berklee College of Music) and Hristo Yotsov ( NMA) among others. He has recorder over 40 albums, played thousands of live concerts, as well as TV and theatre performances in the UK, Europe, USA, Turkey, Russia, Denmark, Italy, Austria, Germany, France, Switzerland, Holland, etc.
Alek frequently appears on major music festivals around the world, like the Berlin Jazz Festival, the Skopje Jazz Festival, Istanbul Jazz Festival the Sziget Festival, Balkan Fever Festival and the Rio Loco Festival. He has performed at such established venues like Ronnie Scott Club, the Barbican Arts Centre, Moods Club, Porgy and Bess and Le Cargo, among others. Aleksandar has also played many live radio sessions (BBC Radio 1, and Jazz FM Skopje, to name a few.)
Alek Sekulovski has collaborated with many great contemporary artists, like the Greg Hopkins , Toni Kitanovski, the tuba jazz legend Bob Stewart, Vasil Hadzimanov, Gustavo Aguilar, New Birth Brass band, Hector Zazou, Frank London, Oscar Salas, Francesco Bearzatti, Teodosi Spassov, Kostas Theodorou, the Macedonian Philharmonic Orchestra, Izzet Kizil, Project Zlust, Foltin, Ljubojna, Tanec and many more.
An accomplished educator, Alek has worked as an Associate professor of drums at the Music Academy at UGD, Stip, Macedonia. His eloquence in using Balkan polyrhythms and his knowledge of history of drumming has made him a frequent contributor to various workshops and clinics, organized as part of various jazz meetings, summer schools and festivals, among which the collaboration with UCLA’s professor James Newton at the Jazz Days workshop, UGD, Stip in 2014 as well as the clinic at the Skopje Biennale 2009 stand out.
Most recently, Alek relentless pursuit of new musical challenges has taken him to Toronto, Canada, where he works as Drum instructor at Metalworks institute of music and so far has performed and recorded with many new intriguing artists from the Canadian music scene, such as the Davor Jordanovski & Voda project, Two Rooms Live, Gyles, Duff Musiq, Rob Tardik, Ria Recce band, among others
